Job Title:

Youth Shelter Counselor

Description:

 

The Briarpatch Runaway and Homeless Youth Program is recruiting a full-time (40 hours per week) counselor to work various shifts in our shelter for runaway and homeless youth.

Qualifications:

 

 

 

·         Requires a minimum of Bachelor's degree or the equivalent of two (2) years full-time experience working or volunteering with teens. A background in education, social work, or human services is preferred.

·         Experience working in a youth shelter or group home setting is preferred along with the ability to work with youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Oversees the daily activities of youth staying in the agency’s temporary shelter facility.

·         Records documentation of client services and required paperwork in accordance with state licensing rules and agency standards.

·         Helps youth staying in the shelter with meal preparation, completion of daily chores, completion of laundry and similar household responsibilities as needed.

·         Maintains a working knowledge of shelter policies and procedures.

·         Provides brief counseling to youth staying in the shelter.

·         Supervises shelter clients during recreational outings.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Hours:

40 hours per week (11:00p - 9:00a) shifts Thursday - Saturday plus one other 10 hour shift to be determined.  Possibility of 3 consecutive days off each week.

Transportation:

Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that allows for operation of agency-owned vehicles.

Compensation

Package:

Starting Pay is $32,240 annually.

Benefits include: health, dental, life, & disability insurance; 10 paid holidays; and 23  paid days off during the first year of employment.

This position provides Intensive Supervision Program services to court-involved youth. This includes assisting clients in completing court ordered obligations and providing general counseling and case management services.

Qualifications:

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Degree in human services or related field with a minimum of 2 years paid employment working with youth ages 10-17.

·         FLUENT in Spanish and English

·         Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.

·         Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working with youth of diverse, cultural backgrounds, knowledge of the Dane County youth justice system, and demonstrated ability to communicate and advocate for clients.

·         Facilitate weekly competency development groups and connect clients with natural community supports.

·         Assist clients in completing court ordered restitution and community service obligations.

·         Maintain up to date files on all assigned cases and create and prepare monthly progress reports for the juvenile court.

·         Attend juvenile court hearings and school meetings.

Hours:

This is a 40 hour per week position, with flexible hours, based upon program and client needs.  Evening and occasional weekend hours are required.

Transportation:

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Compensation

Package:

Starting pay is $16.50 per hour

AmeriCorps Youth Counselor

Description:

 

This position provides counseling and case management to youth and their family members and provides support for volunteers in the Briarpatch Runaway & Homeless Youth Program (RHY).  Duties are performed for outpatient clients and for youth residing in a temporary shelter facility.

Qualifications:

 

·         Experience working with at-risk youth. 

·         Effective communication and organizational skills. 

·         Spanish language skills a plus.  

·         Valid driver’s license required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Provides intake counseling, case management, and referral services to youth and their families.

·         Establishes and maintains case files on assigned clients.  Documents client contacts in case files, and completes case-related documentation in accordance with RHY Program and Agency standards.

·         Provides assistance, support, consultation, and training to RHY Program volunteers to assure that clients receive quality services in timely manner

·         Maintains a working knowledge of RHY Program and agency policies and procedures

·         Participates in RHY Program on-call staff rotation

·         Answers the RHY Program help-line as necessary.

·         Performs other reasonable and related duties as assigned.

Hours:

Flexible hours; some evenings required.  Agency is open 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday-Friday.

Transportation: 

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Compensation

Package:

Living Allowance: $13,992.00 for 1,700 hours in one year; ($583 gross per pay check, semi-monthly).   Education Award after one year’s service:  $5,920.00.
